SALEM – Jeffersonville evened its record at 3-3 Tuesday in
an 8-5 loss at Class 3A No. 10 Salem.
Trailing 3-0, the Red Devils put three runs on the
scoreboard in the top of the third inning to tie the score at three. The Lions
answered with three runs in the bottom of the third to go up 6-3.
Jeff scored twice in the top of the fifth to pull within one
run. But Salem increased its lead back to three in the bottom of the sixth with
two runs.
The Red Devils’ Juliette Schuur, Lindsey Nelson and Nan
Garcia each collected two hits. Jeff starter Lizzy Coons was the losing
pitcher. In six innings of work, Coons allowed eight runs (five earned) on nine
hits. She struck out five and walked one.
Alaina Davidson and Lexi Garloch paced the Lions’ offense,
each going 3-for-4. Garloch smacked a double and a home run.
The Red Devils will travel to Hoosier Hills Conference rival
Seymour at 11 a.m. Saturday. Salem will visit Brownstown Central at 5:30 p.m.
next Tuesday.
