FLOYDS KNOBS – Despite a great start Monday, Jeffersonville suffered
its fourth loss in six games in a 9-5 setback at Floyd Central.
The Red Devils (5-6) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first
inning thanks to solo home runs by Lindsey Nelson and Kaylee Strong. But the
Highlanders (12-5) answered with a three-run shot by Dallas Henderson in the bottom
half to go up 3-2.
Floyd Central tacked on six more runs after that to extend
its advantage to 9-2 after six innings. Jeff scored three runs in the top of
the seventh as Nelson blasted her second homer of the game.
Nelson ended up going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs
scored. Strong also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Faith Denig
was the third Red Devil to go 2-for-4.
Red Devil sophomore Lizzy Coons was the losing pitcher,
allowing eight runs (five earned) on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Highlander senior Taylor Castleberry was 2-for-4 with three
runs scored. Teammate Cassie Thomerson went 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs
and a run scored. Floyd Central senior Jensen Striegel wound up 2-for-4 with a
run scored and an RBI.
Highlander sophomore Abby Letson collected the victory in
the circle. Letson pitched five innings, yielding two runs (both earned) on
four hits and a walk. She struck out five.
Floyd Central will travel to Madison at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
