BEDFORD – Jeffersonville suffered its third loss of the week
to a Hoosier Hills Conference rival Thursday, falling at Class 4A No. 5 Bedford
North Lawrence 6-3.
The Red Devils’ Lindsey Nelson had a solid day at the plate.
The junior went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Teammate Juliette Schuur was 2-for-4 with a double and a
triple. Freshman Nan Garcia also went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Jeff
(5-8).
Red Devil starter Jennah Tincher got the loss in the circle.
The senior pitched 2 1/3 innings, yielding six runs (three earned) on six hits.
At the plate, Tincher went 2-for-3.
Jeff sophomore Lizzy Coons relieved Tincher in the bottom of
the third inning. Coons surrendered no runs on two hits in 3 2/3 innings.
Trailing 2-0 in the top of the third, Nelson and Garcia each
collected RBI base hits to tie the game at two. But the Stars (14-0) responded
with four runs in the bottom half to take a 6-2 lead. The key hit in the frame
was a three-run home run by sophomore Cassie Rutledge. It was Rutledge’s eighth
homer of the 2017 campaign.
BNL’s Kate Williams, Katie Nicholson and Hailey Miller each
smacked two hits. Miller hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the first and had
three RBIs for the game.
Stars’ starter Zoe Adams was the winning pitcher, improving
her record to 11-0. Adams pitched a complete game, giving up three runs (one
earned) on eight hits. She struck out four and walked none.
