NEW ALBANY – New Albany rebounded from its extra-inning loss
to Silver Creek in Saturday’s Jacque Hunter Invitational final with an 8-6 home
victory over Charlestown on Monday at Prosser Field.
With the score tied at four, the Bulldogs (6-5) grabbed the
lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The big hit in the
frame was a two-run double by Marissa Jones.
Riley Case led the New Albany bats, going 3-for-4 with four
RBIs. Jones was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Also for the Bulldogs, Madison Lawson
went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases, Terah Crosier was 2-for-4
with a pair of doubles and two runs scored and Jewel Cunningham stole a pair of
bases.
New Albany’s Alyssa Kraemer was the winning pitcher. In 4
1/3 innings, she allowed four runs (all earned) on six hits. Kraemer struck out
four and walked one. Teammate Morgan Jenks earned the save.
Lexi Eblen paced the Pirates (3-4) with a 3-for-4 game,
smacking a double. Teammate Mackenzie Smith smacked two doubles. Charlestown
pitcher Kendall Cline got the loss.
The Bulldogs will host Seymour at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The
Pirates will visit Corydon Central at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
