JEFFERSONVILLE – Jeffersonville extended its winning streak
to four games Tuesday night at Don Poole Field, defeating Hoosier Hills
Conference foe Columbus East 6-5.
The Red Devils’ Ethan English and Mike Minton each went
3-for-3. All three of English’s hits were doubles. He also had two RBIs and one
run scored. Minton scored twice. Devyn Rivers was Jeff’s third multihit player,
going 2-for-3.
Red Devil starter Jacob Cochrum got the victory to improve
his record to 2-0. Cochrum surrendered five runs (all earned) on nine hits. He
struck out six and walked none. Teammate Cam Northern got the save as he
pitched a scoreless top of the seventh inning.
The Olympians (8-3) took a 5-3 lead in the top of the fifth
by plating four runs in the frame. But Jeff (4-3) bounced back with three runs
in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good.
East’s Jonathan Foster, Eric McMullen and Luke Hostetler
each collected two hits.
The Red Devils will host archrival New Albany (4-6) at 7
p.m. Wednesday.
