BASEBALL: Red Devils stay winless with 5-1 loss to Floyd Central

FLOYDS KNOBS – Jeffersonville’s record dropped to 0-3 Tuesday with a 5-1 loss to Hoosier Hills Conference rival Floyd Central at Highlander Field.
The Red Devils collected just two hits. Each of the knocks were singles by Bennie Day and Hunter Schmitz.
Both players assisted in scoring Jeff’s lone run in the top of the third inning to tie the contest at one. Day plated Schmitz from third base with a one-out RBI single.
Red Devil starter Gabe Bierman got the loss as his record fell to 0-2. In six innings of work, the Indiana University recruit allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits. Bierman had eight strikeouts.
Floyd Central starter Alex Lozado had a solid effort on the mound in earning the win. The junior yielded one run (earned) on two hits in six innings.
The Highlanders (2-3) snapped the 1-1 tie with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Floyd’s Brayden Edwards smacked a two-run single, while teammates Braxton Cerqueira and Austin Brown each had RBI base hits.
The Red Devils will host another HHC foe in Jennings County at 6 p.m. Thursday. The Highlanders will travel to Southridge at 6 p.m. Friday.
