JEFFERSONVILLE – Floyd Central’s Todd Sturgeon and Eastern’s
Mike McBride have been named the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association
District 3 boys’ and girls’ coaches of the year, respectively.
Sturgeon guided the Highlanders to a 19-5 record this past
season. Floyd Central finished second in the Hoosier Hills Conference and was
the runner-up in the Class 4A Seymour Sectional. The Highlanders went on a
14-game winning streak at one point during the 2016-17 campaign.
Sturgeon has a 46-23 record in his three seasons at the
Floyd Central helm. He is a former player at Brownstown Central and was the
head men’s coach at the University of Indianapolis from 1997-2007.
McBride led Eastern to its first-ever state championship
this past season. The Musketeers (23-7) defeated No. 5 Oak Hill in the Class 2A
state title game Feb. 25 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis 42-31.
In 2016-17, McBride guided Eastern to its third sectional
championship in program history and its first regional and semistate crowns.
The Musketeers ended the season on a 15-game winning streak.
McBride, a Charlestown High School graduate, has compiled a
145-85 record in his 10 seasons at Eastern.
