JEFFERSONVILLE – Class 4A No. 9 Jeffersonville dropped both
of its games in its season-opening split doubleheader Friday at Don Poole
Field.
The Red Devils lost the opener to Decatur Central 10-7,
followed by a 10-0 setback to Fort Wayne Carroll.
Against Decatur Central, Jeff’s Jack Ellis was 3-for-3 with
a double and a sixth-inning solo home run. Red Devil starter Jacob Cochrum
earned the loss, giving up seven runs on four hits in five innings.
Down 10-2, Jeff (0-2) tried to mount a comeback with five
runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
In the nightcap, Carroll junior Riley Perlich pitched a one-hit
shutout with 12 strikeouts. Red Devil pitcher Gabe Bierman was the losing
pitcher.
Jeff will visit Hoosier Hills Conference rival Floyd Central
at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
