SOFTBALL: New Albany’s offense stays in rut in 14-0 loss to Borden

By KEVIN HARRIS
NEW ALBANY – New Albany’s offense continued to be in a rut last Wednesday at Prosser Field.
Senior Paige Schindler pitched a two-hit shutout to lead defending Class A state champion Borden to a 14-0 victory in five innings over the Bulldogs. It was the second straight game where New Albany (8-10) had been held scoreless. Columbus East blanked the Bulldogs 3-0 last Monday at Prosser.
Schindler struck out 10 and walked one. The two hits she gave up were a pair of singles by New Albany senior Marissa Jones.
New Albany starter Bri Schoenfeld was the losing pitcher. The sophomore allowed 13 runs (eight earned) on 13 hits and one walk in 3 2/3 innings.
Teammate Morgan Jenks relieved Schoenfeld in the top of the fourth inning. In 1 1/3 innings of work, Jenks yielded a run (earned) on three hits.
Seniors Riley Schindler, Taylor Streander and Haley Shouse each smacked three hits for the Class A No. 4 Braves (13-1). Borden juniors Keisha Curry and Emily Parsons each had two hits. Curry and Parsons hit one home run apiece.
The Braves will host West Clark rival and Class 2A No. 3 Henryville at 5 p.m. Monday.
