BASEBALL: Dogs keep on winning with 7-2 first-round victory in HHC Tourney

SEYMOUR – New Albany extended its winning streak to six games Monday night at American Legion Field, defeating host Seymour in the opening round of the Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament 7-2.
The Bulldogs (10-6) will host archrival Jeffersonville (10-8) in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The Red Devils won at Floyd Central on Monday in another first-round game in eight innings 3-2.
New Albany had three players with two hits apiece. Jonah Boone went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Chase Rudy was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Teammate Dylan Clark went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. He smacked a two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to increase the Bulldogs’ lead to 6-2.
New Albany starter Ryan Robison earned the victory, upping his record to 4-2. In six innings on the hill, the left-hander gave up two runs (both earned) on six hits. Robison recorded four strikeouts and one walk.
Michael Knecht led the Owls’ sticks with a 2-for-3 game. He had a double and an RBI.
Seymour’s Satoshi Hirose was the losing pitcher. He allowed six runs (five earned) on 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings, striking out two and walking two.
The Owls (7-7) will host Floyd Central (11-7) in the consolation semifinals Wednesday.
