NEW ALBANY – New Albany lost in the Hoosier Hills Conference
Tournament consolation semifinals Wednesday at Prosser Field to visiting
Columbus East 4-1. The Bulldogs’ losing streak extended to three games and they
have dropped six of their last seven contests.
New Albany (9-13) went up 1-0 in the bottom of the second
inning. But the Olympians (13-8) answered by scoring at least one run in each
of the final three frames.
East starter Brooke Valles earned the complete-game win. The
lone run the sophomore surrendered was unearned. Valles gave up four hits and
walked three.
The Bulldogs’ four hits each were singles by Madison Lawson,
Jewel Cunningham, Terah Crosier and Miranda Hammond.
New Albany sophomore Bri Schoenfeld was the losing pitcher.
The right-hander threw six innings, giving up three runs (all unearned) on nine
hits with one strikeout.
Bulldog reliever Morgan Jenks pitched the top of the seventh.
She yielded one run (earned) on three hits and a walk.
Freshman Carissa Bombardiere and senior Kaitlin Wagner each
led the East offense. Bombardiere went 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Wagner was
3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
New Albany will travel to Madison for the seventh-place game
of the HHC Tournament on Friday.
