JEFFERSONVILLE – Starter Gabe Bierman threw a four-hitter to
lead host Jeffersonville to a 5-1 upset win over Louisville St. Xavier, the No.
2-ranked team in Kentucky, last Thursday.
Bierman, an Indiana University commitment, struck out eight
Tigers (18-7) and issued no walks. The one run he gave up was earned.
Sophomore Jack Ellis led the Red Devil offense, going
2-for-2 with a run scored. Jeff senior Bennie Day went 2-for-3 with three RBIs,
while teammate Mike Minton was 2-for-3.
The Red Devils grabbed the lead early with a run in the
bottom of the second inning. They followed that with four runs in the bottom of
the third to go up 5-0. St. X’s lone run came in the top of the sixth.
