NEW ALBANY – New Albany won the opener of its annual
tournament - the Stan Sajko Invitational – last Friday at Mt. Tabor Field with
a 12-2 victory in six innings over visiting Corydon Central. The tournament had
a three-team, round-robin format this season.
Three Bulldogs (14-9) produced 2-for-3 performances in
juniors Chase Rudy and Ryan Robison and sophomore Dylan Clark. Robison had a
double, a triple and five RBIs. Clark had a triple and two RBIs and Rudy
collected an RBI.
New Albany senior Logan Charbonneau was the winning pitcher,
upping his record to 4-1. In five innings, Charbonneau allowed two runs (both
unearned) on five hits. He struck out seven and did not issue a walk.
With the score tied at two, the Bulldogs took the lead for
good with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to go up 5-2. New Albany
forced the 10-run mercy rule in the bottom of the sixth with seven runs.
Jordan Ripperdan went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for
Corydon (13-10). Teammate Logan Daily was the losing pitcher, giving up eight
runs (seven earned) on eight hits in five innings. Daily struck out three and
walked one.
