GIRLS’ HOOPS: Red Devils stay hot with 68-51 win at Scottsburg

By KEVIN HARRIS
SCOTTSBURG – Jeffersonville extended its winning streak to four games Tuesday night at Meyer Gym thanks to 11 players getting into the scoring column in a 68-51 win over Scottsburg. The Red Devils (15-7) have prevailed in seven of their last eight contests.
Sophomore forward Chelsea Gibson and freshman forward Nan Garcia each led Jeff with 12 points. Red Devil senior guard Jhala Henry scored all nine of her points in the third quarter, hitting three 3-pointers. Teammates Tori Handley and Britney Epperson came off the bench to score eight points apiece.
Jeff’s 68 points were the second-most they have scored in a game this season.
“We were pleased to get a road win and to give time on the court to every varsity player who suited up. We had very balanced scoring, and all players minus Makiyah Owens scored in the game,” Red Devil assistant coach Craig Harris said. “Chelsea Gibson started hot for us early in the game, while Nan Garcia finished strong in the second half to help us seal the victory.
“Tori Handley continued to contribute big minutes for us defensively with multiple deflections and steals. Tori really helps disrupt the opponent’s offensive sets, and causes our defense to turn to good offense. Senior Jhala Henry scored all nine of her points on three (3-pointers) early in the third to extend our lead. But more importantly, (the 3-pointers) stretched their defense out allowing our bigs (Garcia, Epperson and senior Jalynn Lee) to have a big third quarter, pushing our lead over 20 (points). Sophomore Jasmine Lilly did a good job of feeding the post in the second half.
Paige Barrett and Katie Horstman each led the Warriorettes (13-10) with 15 points. Emma Waskom chipped in 12.
Jeff will host Castle (15-6) in its regular-season finale at 8 p.m. Friday.
