JEFFERSONVILLE – Jeffersonville ended the regular season in victorious
fashion Friday night at Johnson Arena with a 49-36 victory over Castle. The Red
Devils (16-7) have won five games in a row and eight of their last nine
contests.
In her final game at Johnson Arena, Jeff senior guard Jhala
Henry scored a game-high 11 points. Freshman forward Nan Garcia was the only
other Red Devil to score in double figures with 10. Jeff junior Jaylynn Brown
had eight and teammate Chelsea Gibson tallied seven.
The Devils took full control of the contest in the third
quarter. Holding a 22-15 halftime lead, Jeff scored the first six points of the
stanza to extend its advantage to 28-15 at the 6:08 mark. The 6-0 spurt
propelled the Red Devils to outscore the Knights (15-7) 19-9 in the quarter and
increase their lead to 41-24. Jessica Nunge led Castle by matching Henry for
game-high scoring honors with 11 points.
Jeff will play either Bedford North Lawrence (16-4) or
Seymour (15-7) in the second semifinal of the Class 4A Floyd Central Sectional
at about 7:30 p.m. next Friday. The Red Devils defeated both teams during the
regular season. They downed the Stars on Nov. 19 at home 43-34. Jeff won in
overtime Jan. 17 at Seymour 65-61.
