JASPER – Class 4A No. 1 New Albany bolted out to a 35-18
halftime lead and rolled to a 72-31 victory Saturday night at Jasper. The
Bulldogs (15-2) extended their winning streak to 12 games and won by 25-plus
points for the seventh time in nine contests.
Junior Romeo Langford paced New Albany with a game-high 26
points. The 6-foot-5 standout shot 11-of-21 from the field and missed a
double-double by one rebound with nine boards. Langford also had four assists
and three steals.
Fellow Bulldog junior Sean East ended up with 13 points and
eight assists. He connected on five of his 10 field-goal tries and three of his
six 3-point attempts.
It was a milestone night for New Albany senior Isaac
Hibbard. The 6-foot guard had 10 points to become the 12th Bulldog
to score 1,000 points in his high school career.
Hibbard also had six rebounds and four steals. New Albany freshman Julien Hunter joined Hibbard with 10 points.
The Bulldogs shot a sizzling 31-of-54 from the field (57.4
percent) and held the Wildcats (10-5) to 34.2 percent shooting (13-of-38). Jasper’s
31 points were the fewest New Albany has surrendered this season. Tyler
Nottingham was the Wildcats’ top scorer with eight points.
The Bulldogs will host Hoosier Hills Conference rival
Jennings County (12-5, 2-2 HHC) at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. New
Albany currently leads the HHC with a 4-0 conference record as it is vying for
a fourth consecutive outright Hoosier Hills championship. The Bulldogs have
prevailed in their last 19 HHC contests.
