SEYMOUR – Defending Class 4A state champion New Albany moved into sole possession of first place in the Hoosier Hills Conference on Saturday night at Scott Gym with a convincing 86-40 win over host Seymour. The victory increased the Bulldogs’ winning streak to six games.
Junior Sean East paced Class 4A No. 4 New Albany (9-2, 3-0 HHC) with a game-high 24 points. The 6-foot guard knocked down five 3-pointers against the Owls (3-7, 0-3).
Fellow Bulldog junior Romeo Langford wound up with 20 points. Sixteen of his 20 came in the second half.
New Albany senior guard Isaac Hibbard finished with 14 points, while teammates Derrick Stevenson and Blake Murphy each tallied nine.
The Bulldogs showed no signs of a letdown following their 67-56 triumph at archrival Jeffersonville this past Friday. They pulled out to a 20-8 lead after one quarter over Seymour and held a 41-21 advantage at halftime. Ty McCory was the Owls’ top scorer with 12 points.
New Albany will host HHC foe Madison (5-6, 0-3) next Friday at the Doghouse with the varsity game starting at about 7:30 p.m.
