MADISON – Senior guard Marissa Jones and junior forward Kelsy
Taylor each recorded double-doubles in leading New Albany past Madison on
Thursday night at Connor K. Salm Gymnasium 80-45.
Jones scored a game-high 18 points, knocking down three
3-pointers. She also had another contest where she distributed double-digit
assists with 14. Jones made 15 assists in the Bulldogs’ 81-57 victory over
rival Floyd Central last Saturday.
Taylor registered 12 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.
Three other New Albany players scored in double figures. Alayasia Douglas
tallied 16 points, Earlean Davis had 12 and Chyna Anthony scored 10.
It was the second consecutive game and the third time in the
last five contests that the Bulldogs (12-5, 3-1 Hoosier Hills Conference) have
scored 80-plus points.
“We
played really well on both ends of the floor tonight,” New Albany head
coach Tammy Geron said. “I thought we did a good job of pushing the tempo
early and getting out to a good lead. I thought Marissa had an outstanding game
just leading us on the floor tonight and found herself able to score
some as well. Most impressive is just her ability to push the ball in
transition. It is always good to get a win on the road in the HHC.”
The
win kept the Bulldogs one game behind first-place Jeffersonville (5-0 HHC) in
the loss column in the HHC standings. New Albany will have another crucial
conference game at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at The Doghouse versus Columbus East
(11-7, 1-2).
