JEFFERSONVILLE – A handful of Southern Indiana programs are
ranked in the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association preseason polls,
which came out earlier this week.
Jeffersonville is tied for ninth in the Class 4A rankings
with Noblesville. New Albany received honorable-mention votes.
Last season, the Red Devils defeated the Bulldogs in the
Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament championship game 10-2.
However, New Albany returned the favor to its archrival more
than two weeks later. The Bulldogs beat Jeff in the Class 4A Floyd Central
Sectional title game 1-0.
Defending Class 2A state champion Providence is the
top-ranked team in the Class 2A preseason poll. Austin is ranked fifth.
Two Southern Athletic Conference teams are in the top 10 of
the Class A preseason rankings. Last year’s Class A state runner-up Lanesville
is No. 1 and Borden is ranked fourth. Conference foe South Central and Trinity
Lutheran got honorable-mention votes.
Silver Creek received honorable-mention votes in the Class
3A preseason poll.
