BOYS’ HOOPS: Falkenstein scores 34 to lead Jeff to third win in a row 72-66

By KEVIN HARRIS
JEFFERSONVILLE – Bailey Falkenstein was two points short of matching his career-high scoring total in leading Jeffersonville to its third consecutive victory Friday night at Johnson Arena against Evansville Reitz 72-66. It was Homecoming at Jeff High.
Falkenstein scored a game-high 34 points as he connected on four 3-pointers and was a perfect 10-of-10 at the free-throw line. The junior posted his career-high of 36 points in an 83-63 win over Louisville Manual on Jan. 7 at Johnson Arena.
Fellow Red Devil junior Gerrin Moore poured in 19 points, while teammate Joe LaGrange had nine.
Jeff (11-8) got off to a great start, pulling out to a 25-15 lead with 5:25 left in the second quarter. But the Panthers (10-9) ended the half on an 11-4 run to pull within three points at halftime, 29-26.
With 3:17 left in regulation, Reitz’s Elijah Dunham nailed a 3-pointer to tie the score at 61. But the Red Devils took the lead and kept it after that by reeling off eight straight points to go up 69-61. Falkenstein hit four foul shots in that spurt.
Tamaje Blackwell led the Panthers with 22 points, followed by teammate Isaiah Dunham with 14 and Elijah Dunham with 13.
Jeff (2-4 Hoosier Hills Conference) will host HHC foe Jennings County (13-6, 3-3) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
