FLOYDS KNOBS – Seymour concluded Jeffersonville’s season on
Monday, May 22 in a 9-5 loss to Hoosier Hills Conference rival Seymour in the
first round of the Class 4A Floyd Central Sectional.
Red Devil freshman Nan Garcia had a big game at the plate.
She was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and an RBI. Jeff junior
Lindsey Nelson went 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBIs and a run scored.
Red Devil starter Lizzy Coons got the loss in the circle.
The sophomore allowed five runs (one earned) on four hits, walking three and
striking out one.
Tori Snook led the Owls (17-6) at the plate. She collected
two hits, one of which was a double, and scored two runs. Teammate Haley Mobley
had a pair of hits and two runs scored.
Seymour’s Rachel Kaufman was the winning pitcher. In six
innings, she allowed five runs (all earned) on eight hits. Kaufman had three
strikeouts and no walks.
Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the third inning, Jeff (12-13)
pulled within one run by scoring four times in the frame. Nelson smacked a
two-run homer and junior Faith Denig delivered a two-run double.
But the Owls answered with two runs apiece in the fourth and
fifth to go up 9-4. It was Seymour’s first victory in a sectional contest since
2007.
