FLOYDS KNOBS – New Albany collected five hits and committed
four errors to lose to archrival Floyd Central 10-0 in the Class 4A Floyd
Central Sectional semifinals May 23.
Erikah Crosier was the lone Bulldog to have a multihit game,
going 2-for-3 with a double.
New Albany starter Bri Schoenfeld was the losing pitcher in
a complete-game effort. The right-hander yielded 10 runs (seven earned) on 13
hits and one walk.
Highlander junior Alexis McCullough went 3-for-4 with a
double, a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs. Teammates Taylor Castleberry,
Jensen Striegel and Taryn Weddle each were 2-for-4. Castleberry scored twice
and had an RBI. Striegel had two runs scored and Weddle drove in two runs.
Floyd Central starter Abby Letson earned the win, improving
her record to 12-3. The sophomore pitched five scoreless innings, surrendering
three hits and one walk. Letson struck out five.
Highlander freshman reliever Madison Wathen wrapped up the
shutout by tossing two scoreless frames. She gave up two hits and no walks with
one strikeout.
New Albany concluded its season losing eight of its final 11
games. The Bulldogs were shut out in five of those eight setbacks.
