FERDINAND – Eighth-ranked Henryville fell short of its first
semistate championship on June 3, as it lost to No. 6 Indianapolis Scecina in
the championship game of the Class 2A Forest Park Semistate 10-4.
The Crusaders pulled out to an 8-0 after 3 ½ innings. Junior
Lexie McAfee smacked a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to
cut the Hornets’ deficit to 8-2.
Henryville (23-7) won the semifinal on the third versus No.
4 Northeastern 5-4. McAfee and teammate Hannah Nunn each drove in two RBIs.
Hornet starter Peyton Ottersbach got the win, recording seven strikeouts.
Scecina proceeded to capture the Class 2A state championship
last Saturday at Indianapolis Ben Davis with a 6-2 victory over top-ranked
Elwood.
In other semistate action on June 3, Silver Creek lost to Evansville
Memorial in the Class 3A Jasper Semistate semifinal 6-0. Lanesville fell to
fifth-ranked and eventual state champion Tecumseh in the Class A North Daviess
Semistate semi 2-1.
