By KEVIN HARRIS
BEDFORD – Floyd Central’s season came to an end on May 29 at Stars Field, losing to Class 4A No. 6 Bedford North Lawrence in the Class 4A BNL Sectional championship game 9-3. The Stars (22-4) captured their first sectional title since 1994. It was BNL’s first sectional crown in the class era.
Highlander junior starter Alex Lozado got the loss, finishing the season with a 7-2 record. Lozado pitched just two innings, surrendering five runs (all earned) on five hits and one walk.
Despite the setback, Lozado had a productive game at the plate, going 3-for-4. Teammate Max Baumann was 2-for-4 with a double and the Highlanders’ Brayden Edwards launched a solo home run in the sixth inning.
BNL starter Drew Hensley was the winning pitcher in a complete-game effort. The senior yielded three earned runs on 10 hits to up his record to 7-1. Hensley struck out five and walked two. Star senior Michael Underwood went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Floyd Central said goodbye to 10 seniors. They are Baumann, Edwards, Chas Adams, David Bostick, Hunter Bradshaw, Jon Cato, Trevor Clark, Dalton Drexler, Kendall LaFayette and Chase Stepp.
