NEW ALBANY – Floyd Central ended Jeffersonville’s 2017
season on Thursday night at The Doghouse with a 25-13, 25-9, 25-8 victory in
the first round of the Class 4A New Albany Sectional.
The Highlanders (24-10) will face Providence in the second
semifinal of the sectional at approximately 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The Pioneers (33-1)
defeated the sectional-host Bulldogs in Thursday’s first opening-round match
25-11, 25-12, 25-11.
Jenna Lake led the Red Devil offense with six kills.
Teammate Alayna Lacy recorded team-highs in assists (11) and digs (nine). Jeff
(7-17) said goodbye to one senior in Megan Gallagher.
Cassie Thomerson paced the Floyd Central attack with 11
kills, while teammates Molly Ottersbach and Alexis Smith each had nine. The
Highlanders’ Sara Sans made 33 assists and 11 digs.
Also for Floyd, Kamryn Plaiss had nine digs and three aces,
Rachel Whitehouse served four aces and Mia Swearingen made two blocks.
