JEFFERSONVILLE – Jeffersonville senior Kam Fuller’s final
regular-season home game last Friday at Blair Field was one for him to
remember.
Fuller rushed for a school-record 389 yards on 17 carries to
lead the Red Devils to a 63-40 victory over Hoosier Hills Conference rival
Jennings County. The Jeff running back’s unbelievable performance helped the
Red Devils (3-6, 3-4 HHC) rally from a 20-0 deficit in the second quarter.
Fuller bested the previous single-game school record, which
was 327 rushing yards in 2008 by former Jeff standout Jamie Goldsmith, by 62
yards. Fuller scored four touchdowns, all coming on the ground.
The Panthers (2-7, 1-6) took their 20-point lead at the 8:20
mark of the second when quarterback Justin Rennemeier made a 7-yard touchdown
run.
The Red Devils answered with 35 consecutive points, coming
on five TDs, to go up 35-20. Fuller recorded three of the five scores on runs
of 7, 32 and 59 yards. The other two touchdowns were a 45-yard run by sophomore
Jeremiah Thornton and a 17-yard scamper by Devaca Parks.
Jennings County got back within two points at 35-33 with
back-to-back TD passes by Rennemeier. But Jeff responded with 1:03 left in the
third period as junior Isaac Hall made a 49-yard touchdown run to get its lead
back to nine at 42-33.
After Beineke caught a 15-yard TD pass to pull the Panthers
within 42-40 at the 9:41 mark of the fourth, the Devils reeled off 21
consecutive points to turn the contest into a blowout. Jeff got a 68-yard TD
run from Fuller, a 23-yard TD reception by Parks from Hall and a 1-yard TD
scamper by senior Cameron McClure.
The Red Devils rushed for 501 yards. Hall was 3-of-8 passing
for 42 yards.
Jeff will be off Friday before it will travel to Columbus
North (8-1) for the Class 6A Sectional 8 semifinal. Jennings County will host
Franklin County (5-4) in the first round of Class 4A Sectional 23 at 7 p.m.
Friday.
