FOOTBALL: Red Devils stumble at BNL in 35-14 loss

BEDFORD – Jeffersonville fell behind 21-0 after the first quarter and could not dig out of that hole Friday at Stars Field, as it lost to host Bedford North Lawrence 35-14.
The Stars (3-0, 1-0 Hoosier Hills Conference) got three touchdown runs in the opening period from quarterback McCall Ray and running backs Jamey Deckard and Wyatt Martin.
The Red Devils (1-2, 1-1) cut their deficit to 21-7 when sophomore Joey Schroder had an 18-yard TD run with 4:13 remaining in the second quarter.
But BNL got the lead back to 21 points with 10.5 seconds left in the first half as Drew Shoufler caught a 13-yard TD reception from Ray to put the Stars up 28-7.
With 8:42 remaining in the fourth quarter, Jeff sliced the Star lead to 14 again at 28-14 thanks to a 34-yard TD pass from quarterback Shaun Wimberly to junior Isaac Hall.
BNL concluded the scoring with 7:09 left in regulation, as Shoufler grabbed a 71-yard TD catch from Ray.
Wimberly wound up completing 8-of-18 passes for 143 yards, one TD pass and one interception. Red Devil senior running back Kam Fuller rushed for 113 yards on 22 carries. Hall had three receptions for 72 yards.
Martin ran the ball 18 times for a game-high 145 yards. Ray threw for 127 yards on 6-of-14 passing with two TD passes. The Stars compiled 420 total yards, 275 coming on the ground.
Jeff will travel to Madison (1-2, 0-1 HHC) this coming Friday with kickoff at 7 p.m. BNL will host New Albany (2-1, 1-0 HHC) at 7 p.m. next Friday.
