CLARKSVILLE – On Saturday, Sept. 14, Providence improved its record to 17-0 by winning two matches in a three-team home round robin against Jasper and Carmel.
The Pioneers started the round robin with a 25-13, 25-21, 25-11 victory over the Wildcats. Senior Courtney Glotzbach led the Providence offensive attack with 13 kills, followed by teammate Ali Hornung with 12. Pioneer junior Emma Kaelin distributed 29 assists. Senior Ceci Rush paced the Providence defense with 10 digs.
The Pioneers defeated Carmel in the third and final match of the day, 28-26, 25-21, 25-18. Glotzbach matched her kill total from the Jasper match with 13, while Kaelin dished out 24 assists. Rush made 12 digs and Providence senior Maggie Purichia had five blocks. Hornung and teammate Ali Hughes each had four blocks.
“(Jasper) did some things to us that we didn’t necessarily expect, and we had to make some adjustments, which were really good,” Pioneer head coach Terri Purichia said. “They served the ball really aggressive at us, so we got into a little serve-reception trouble. But (Providence) worked through it, which was good.
“We just had a tremendously good match against Carmel. It was probably the best match we’ve played all season. Carmel played us with such great intensity. It was a back-and-forth battle that we were so thankful to get out with (a victory).”
